Profile
Fredbird has been a Cardinal — in every sense of the word — since 1979. Over more than four decades he has witnessed three World Series titles, entertained at over 3,600 games, and become a multigenerational icon for St. Louis. His 2025 Mascot Hall of Fame induction recognized him as the 9th MLB mascot to enter the Hall. At over 40 years old, the feathered fella still co-hosts a children’s TV show.
Fun Facts
- Fredbird’s name is a riff on ‘Redbird,’ a common nickname for the cardinal bird — a bit of wordplay that has held up impressively well across 40+ years of game programs.
- Fredbird performs dramatic aerial stunts during games, including flying on wires from the upper deck at Busch Stadium — earning him a reputation as one of the more acrobatic MLB mascots.
- He continues to co-host Cardinals Kids, a children’s TV program, making him one of the only active Hall of Fame–inducted mascots with a dual career in television.
